Street Fairn’ Eco Style

Tips to remember as you hit those last few days of farmer’s markets, neighborhood and church fairs, fun events!

  • Chose vendors that use paper products to serve with. Don’t use plastics or styrofoams.

  • Bring your own bags.

  • If you are planning on eating, reuse a cup or bring your own utensils from home.

  • Spread the world! Local vendors are busy and they are on a budget. Make sure that they know eco-friendly products are out there.

  • Ask the vendors if they give a discount for reusing your own cups, plates, napkins, etc. It may be an attractive option for them to save money as well.

  • Look for recycling bins. If none, save your trash to take home.

  • Carpool to the event or walk and ride a bike if you can.

  • Pick your sunscreen wisely. www.ewg.org for more info. You could also wear a hat, long sleeve linen or hemp.

  • Ask if produce has been sprayed. To become certified organic is a long process but at least if they stopped spraying you know they are on their way. Not buying sprayed produce sends a message that the change is needed. Some will start to get the hint!

  • Of course, choose local first (less fossil fuels!)

Get the Best Sunscreen

Is your sunscreen safe? Four out of 5 sunscreens don't give the protection you need, blocking too little of the sun's harmful UV radiation, or containing ingredients with significant safety concerns.
How does your sunscreen rank? Find out at skin deep, the Environmental Working Group's cosmetic safety database of nearly 1,000 sunscreens.

More Reasons to BYOB!

Tips on making it easy to stop using
plastic and paper bags.
REDUCE, then REUSE before recycling.

1-Always keep some reusable bags in the back of the car, or bunch up an old plastic bag and keep it in your purse, gym bag, etc.

2-STOP! If you forget, force yourself to go back out to your car. Pretty soon just the time that takes will help you remember.

3-If you forget, buy a new reusable bag at the store, and then make it a priority to spread the word and give it to a friend (if you already have enough.)

4-Choose paper if you do get stuck. Many places are using recycled paper now, and it is a much better choice than plastic.

5-Teach your children well. They can be your best reminders. Lets care for their earth!

Check out this presentation on the dangers of plastic bags.
